Rukavishnikov Manor

Originally a two- storey brick mansion on the Verkhne-Volzhskaya embankment belonged to Serapion Vezlomtsev, a merchant of the first-grade guild. In the 1840s Vezlomtsev failed to pay the entire sum of his debt and the mansion fell into the hands of M. Rukavishnikov, the owner of the first in Nizhny Novgorod steel foundry and great usurer. His heir Sergei Rukavishnikov preferred to have the house turned into a majestic complex in the style of Italian palazzo on Verkhne-Volzhskaya embankment. He invited P.S. Boitsov, an architect from Moscow and M.O. Mikeshin, an artist from St. Petersburg, famous in finishing facades with rich d?coration. A decision was made to reconstruct the old house remaining the supporting walls, to which two wings – western and eastern, were attached. Caryatides, statues of female figures, occupy window piers. Atlases are used as a supporting pillar for the balcony on the second -floor level. All of them were executed according to M. Mikeshin’s sketches and call forth associations with a baroque Italian palazzo.
The mansion communicates with a two-storey brick outhouse by a covered gallery on the second-floor level. The outhouse is distinguished for its simplicity, balance and characterized by restrained use of decoration.

Piano

The Piano Theater has existed since 1986 at the Nizhny Novgorod boarding school for deaf children.
Theater actors do not hear music, applause. But the musicality, expressiveness, mastery of their stage language causes a powerful resonance in society.
A field of interaction arises between the audience and the actors – a single field of co-participation, co-creativity, co-experience. Both children and adults who have experienced this feeling, this good “Piano” effect, are eager to repeat it again.
The main technique is improvisation in the stage space, an intuitive search and the actualization of relevant themes and images in a concrete art form. Improvisation – as a creative method of teaching and creating performances, as a method of corrective pedagogy.
Actors “sing music with their bodies”, independently changing the nature and form of movement in accordance with today’s tasks, improving the character and form of feeling and thinking.
This “visible music” is both a theme and a way of conducting a lively dialogue with the audience, many of which do not even suspect that these boys and girls on stage do not hear, they cannot hear applause.
Over its 33-year history, the Piano Theater has played a huge number of performances for a variety of spectators on the prestigious stages of the capital’s theaters, as well as in children’s hospitals, orphanages and schools. The theater has participated in more than 70 international theater festivals and events in 17 countries: in Russia, Germany, France, the USA, Luxembourg, Finland, Switzerland, England, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Austria, France, Canada, Monaco, China, Japan.
The leaders of the Piano Theater are Vladimir and Marina Chikishevs. The authors of the original technique aimed at developing the ability to creatively interact with the surrounding space through movement, plastic, rhythm.

GBUK BUT TUZ

One of the oldest cultural institutions of Nizhny Novgorod, the Theater of Young Spectators dates back to 1927, when the youth branch of the main city theater was created by the efforts of young artists on the initiative of the famous Nizhny Novgorod director and actor Sobolshchikov-Samarin. Founded thanks to the initiative of the graduates of the theater college, the Theater for Young Spectators managed to gain popularity among the public in the first years of its existence. Despite the lack of their own stage and rehearsal base, the actors and directors were able to create a theater that was strikingly different from its academic counterparts by the freshness of their views and the brightness of stage decisions.
The Theater of the Young Spectator in Nizhny Novgorod (in 1938, the city of Gorky) received its first permanent home on the tenth anniversary of the opening, and after only a few years, the Youth Theater troupe went to the front as part of propaganda teams. The collective met the years of the Great Patriotic War with patriotic productions, and in its post-war repertoire, preference is increasingly given to classical works.
From the beginning of the sixties of the twentieth century, the Nizhny Novgorod Theater of Young Spectators managed to enter the vanguard of Soviet art. On his stage there were performances, which were talked about by true connoisseurs and theater critics. In the repertoire of the Youth Theater in those years, there was a place for both Shakespeare’s classical works and plays by contemporary authors – Mark Rozovsky, Alexander Vampilov and other playwrights, who later conquered the theater world with the depth of their work.
One of the best youth theater of the country, the Nizhny Novgorod State Theater of Young Spectators in the late seventies found a new home – a building on Gorky Street. A decade later, a small stage was opened – an experimental site, immediately loved by both young theatergoers and their parents. In its modern history, the Youth Theater has gained fame thanks to the brilliant reading of classical works – performances based on the plays of Chekhov and Lope de Vega managed to conquer not only the audience, but also demanding colleagues. Many of them were awarded prestigious awards at theater festivals, the theater and its troupe repeatedly became winners of the Golden Mask Prize, confirming the status of the collective, which is not alien to creative experiments, year after year.
