Nizhny Novgorod was founded in 1221 by Vladimir-Suzdal Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich as a border fortress. The city has preserved many unique monuments of history, architecture and culture, which gave UNESCO the basis to include Nizhny Novgorod in the list of 100 cities of the world, representing world historical and cultural.
